My Life in Perspective at Vahina-Paradis B&B

There’s a question I’d been turning over for a while, and one evening I just filmed myself asking it, no preparation at all: is living about pleasing yourself selfishly, without a thought for others? Or is it about pleasing yourself while still respecting and considering the people around you? I eventually found my answer, and in a way, it’s the whole idea behind Vahina-Paradis.

My little life here is anything but quiet. Vahina needs four hours outside every day, rain or shine, and the house is slowly falling apart and has to be brought back to life room by room: a shutter repainted today, a bedroom cleaned tomorrow. I’ve given myself a full year to get through it all, without rushing, without shortcuts.

And yet none of this work is only for me. Nobody is happy alone. The stars, the moon, the view — lovely to look at, sure, but what really brings joy is being useful to someone, lending a hand, while still keeping your own self-respect. That’s exactly what I’m trying to build here: a place where I please myself, in my own house, with my dog — and where, at the same time, I open the door so others can find that same thing.

Vahina-Paradis isn’t really about rooms for rent. It’s a very simple philosophy: you can live for yourself and for others at once, without one crowding out the other. A family unpacking their bags, a dog finally getting proper hikes, a sky above Gap-Tallard airfield for those who dream of flying — and me, in my living room, still repainting my shutters one day at a time, glad to know this whole project will one day serve others as much as it serves me.
