In Châteauvieux, some mornings look just like all the others. Vahina and I take the same path, the one that climbs gently facing Gap-Tallard airfield. Nothing special, on the surface — except that on this day, as so often, I felt my mother’s presence with me, quietly, always.
There’s nothing much to tell, and that’s exactly the point. An ordinary walk, one more day in the valley. Vahina stops wherever she likes, whenever she likes. That day, she crouched on the bank, still, ears pricked toward the horizon — a quiet observer of a small plane taking off in the distance.
I stopped with her, and looked the same way. Without really thinking, I said out loud what I often think in silence: “What an extraordinary privilege, to feel that… my mother is here with me… always.” Nothing more. No grand speech — just a quiet certainty, sitting there like the landscape itself.
