There’s something I want to explain, because it lies at the very origin of Vahina-Paradis: whenever you listen to someone, there is always an interpretation. What you receive is never exactly the original message — language bends, transforms, takes on another shape of understanding. That’s what makes communication difficult, and it’s also what makes acting possible.

After more than 30 years exploring this subject on stage, I eventually understood something simple: the goal isn’t to play a role, it’s to rediscover human nature in its environment. No longer playing a part — being yourself, the best version of yourself. It’s a whole debate, one that could take hours to explain. But in essence, that’s it.
